What to do when...

Your 8 year old girl comes home from a play date with a big wad of Hubba Bubba bubblegum in her hair? Definitely NOT ice, 20 minutes of this just made it worse, far worse! Just FYI...a 5 minute soak in olive oil (a very high quality olive oil I might add) will do the trick. After the soak, take a fine tooth comb and it should just slide right out! Finally, you must shampoo the olive oil out about 3-5 times and then she's good as new. One hour of your life gone but you stave off an emergency trip to the salon. All this after a full day as a subsititute teacher in the 5th grade where it was my responsibility to teach 11 year-olds how to add and subtract fraction and reduce them to their simplest terms...the skills that leave you never to return!

Maiden Voyage!

Just finally finding the time to figure out the blogging world...there are so many blogs that I enjoy reading that I never felt the need to post my own. Reading my favorite blog is better than the morning paper with that first cup of coffee! It's awesome that there is great entertainment value in "regular" people just like me. Parenthood provides the best material of any as far as I can tell.

Today, I had a fascinating conversation with a friend who is in the process of researching service dogs that alarm (bark is a better term I suppose) when her type 1 diabetic child is experiencing a dangerous low. The very idea that my highly allergic, dog-phobic friend is seeking out a furry little companion to pre-empt a dangerous medical condition for her child is absolutely amazing to me. A mother's love (when combined with an epipen) is an awesome thing! Does anyone have any knowledge of this type of service animal? I would love to help her research this option further.

More to come later, my attention span is waning...ooh something shiny....
